Khopasi was known as Kurpasi Gram in the Lichhavi period and Kurpasi Drang in the Kirat period. The name Kurpasi evolved to Khupasi in the 13th Century and Khopasi in 2011 B.S. Presently “Khopasi” falls under ward No. 10 of Panauti Municipality of Kavrepalanchowk district.
Narasingh Moth, the residence of the Administrator Amshuvarma where Bhrikuti was born and departed to her husband’s kingdom is situated at Pange Tole of Khopasi. There are three Pahari (craftsmen) communities at Mathlo gaun (adjoining to the premises of Narasingh Moth), Majha gaun, and Tallo gaun in Khopasi under ward no 10 of Panauti Municipality. Khopasi falls at a mean elevation of about 1517 meters above sea level with moderate hills. The climate is sub-tropical with a maximum of 30.60 C in April and -30 C in January and 74% annual average humidity. The average annual temperature is 160 C and 240 C and the average annual rainfall is 1733 millimeters. Most of the rainfall occurs from June to September. Khopasi is connected to Kathmandu with a 35 km black-topped road. People can easily travel by a direct public vehicle from Kathmandu to the old bus stand to Panauti (32 km) or travel up to Banepa (24 km) and take the local bus from Banepa to Panauti (8 km) and Panauti to Khopasi (3 km).
Projects will initiate from Khopasi and extend other appropriate activities delivering peace and cultural arts with the identification of Bhrikuti exodus routes from Khopasi to Rasuwa and Tibet also connecting with Araniko’s art.
